During this stressful and isolating time, we knew it was more important than ever to make the holidays as special as we could for our clients. We’re proud to announce that we were able to give at least $100 worth of gift cards to all 75 low-income older adults and adults living with disabilities in our Community Care Program.
This simply wouldn’t have been possible without the support and kindness of our community partners who generously hosted giving trees at their stores:
Chapel Hill Tire
Joe Van Gogh
Old East Tavern
UNC’s Kappa Psi Beta Xi
Walmart Charitable Giving
Wentworth & Sloan Jewelers
We can’t say it enough- thank you to our partners and their generous customers! Their kindness and generosity reaffirmed our belief that even during this difficult time, we CAN rally our community together to help those in need.
We heard from many of our clients after they received their gifts, and we wanted to share their joy and appreciation!
For many of our new clients, their gift was completely unexpected and quite an exciting surprise “ I was so shocked when I saw how much the gift card was for. It was so generous. It’s my favorite store. Thank you so much. It really made me happy. I couldn’t believe it!” said Ms. R. Another new client, Ms. P., called us with happy tears “Thank you, thank you, thank you so very, very much. I never got anything for Christmas before.”
Speaking with clients, it was instantly clear how much joy your generous gifts provided “Can you see the big smile on my face? I’m so glad…I’m so happy now!” said Ms. C.
For many of our clients, like Ms. F, the gift came just in time “Thank you so much! And I needed it. I’ll be going out tomorrow to go shopping!”
A gift card gave each client the chance to pick out exactly what they wanted, as Ms. W said, “I especially like the gift cards. You know why? I can get exactly what I want. This is especially helpful when it comes to food. I can actually choose and make selections based on what I like to eat.”
“Thank you so much! I really needed this” said Ms. G. Not only did your generosity provide much needed assistance for many older adults and adults living with disabilities in our community, but many clients were moved by the thoughtfulness put into each gift as Ms. W and Mr. L said “It’s just so nice. We both really appreciate it. I could tell there was thought put into it. Thank you.”
“It really made my Christmas” said Ms. T. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity this past holiday season. YOU brought so much joy to our community!
Finally, we’d like to thank our wonderful volunteers who spent countless hours making this all possible! Thank you to Heather Altman, Nancy Oates, Mitten Brigade, and all the volunteers who drove all throughout Durham and Orange counties to make sure that every gift was personally delivered!
